We are delighted to announce that groundbreaking research conducted by our faculty on entrepreneurial ecosystems in Central Asia has been published in the prestigious International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
The research, led by Dr. Gulnara Ismailova and Dr. Bakyt Asanov, examines the unique challenges and opportunities for entrepreneurship development in post-Soviet Central Asian economies, with a particular focus on Kyrgyzstan. The study combines quantitative analysis of economic data with qualitative insights from interviews with over 100 entrepreneurs across the region.
Key findings from the research include:
- The critical role of informal networks in facilitating entrepreneurial activity in the absence of strong formal institutions
- The emergence of sector-specific innovation clusters in urban centers
- The impact of remittances on small business formation and growth
- Policy recommendations for strengthening entrepreneurial ecosystems in transition economies
"This publication represents an important contribution to our understanding of entrepreneurship in the Central Asian context," said the Institute's Research Director. "It not only enhances our institute's international academic reputation but also provides valuable insights that can inform policy and practice in our region."
The research team will present their findings at several international conferences this year and is already planning follow-up studies to explore specific aspects of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in greater depth.
